Ghana
Living Earth does not currently have any active programmes in Ghana; this section of the website provides information on our previous projects.
Living Earth Foundation worked in Ghana from 1996 to 2002, when Living Earth Foundation Ghana (LEFG) was established as a Ghanaian NGO. Between 2002 and 2008, LEFG, in partnership with Living Earth Foundation (UK) ran a number of environmental education and community development programmes in Ghana.

Work in Ghana
Living Earth’s work in Ghana has been focused primarily on environmental education and community development. Living Earth Foundation Ghana, imbued with Living Earth’s commitment to community development and capacity building, also sought a grass root approach to development that put local communities at the centre.
Shortly after Living Earth Foundation Ghana was established in 2002, it sought to foster and support local development, for example, by establishing a cold store facility for fish caught off the coast of Accra. The cold store, located in the Jamestown region of Accra, ensured that the fish caught by the local communities could be hygienically stored before being sold. LEFG then facilitated a very successful partnership between Shell Ghana and a local NGO the Muslim Relief Association of Ghana, ensuring continued support for these cold store facilities, which continue to be a vital asset of the fishing communities of Jamestown.
Projects

Darwin Training Programme
The project, implemented from October 2005- September 2008 sought to improve community liaison and biodiversity protection through promoting the establishment of Community Resource Management Areas (CREMAs) around Ghana’s protected areas.
