Scottish teachers visiting the North Slope Borough of Alaska this October, as part of the Polar Pairs Teacher Exchange Programme, participated in the introduction of the new Inupiaq Learning Framework – a culturally defined curriculum approach that is currently being rolled out across the Borough.
Teachers from both sides of the exchange and students from Trapper School in Nuiqsut took part in creative workshops to explore the new learning approach and understand what it means to them, their community and their education. They subsequently developed a comic strip that identifies, introduces and explains the ground breaking model.
This new piece of teaching material will be of use both in training North Slope teachers in the implementation of the new approach, and in communicating it to students.
