As part of the functional skills training for small micro enterprises (SMEs), Living Earth Uganda staff facilitated a functional skills training programme in waste plastic collection and sorting for twenty participants on 27th-28th September 2011. The objective was to equip participants with essential skills in waste plastic collection and sorting; to support opportunities for income generation, business development and increase the promotion of sanitation and hygiene among communities involved.

Training sessions comprised of topics relating to recyclable components of waste plastics and methods used, developing effective communication skills; including public relations and customer care, Health, Safety and Risk management strategies, planning and budgeting through to Human Resources and capacity building. Participants were also able to engage in a practical session, outlining how to sort plastics according to their type and colour.

At the end of the training, participants were thanked for their attendance and encouraged by the Project Manager to take on board their learning and reference training sessions to support their continued business growth and improvement of their livelihoods.
