Living Earth facilitates training for community groups in South Durban Basin

Living Earth consulted a number of community-based organisations to gauge interest and an invitation was given to members of the SAPREF Community Liaison Forum to register their interest in attending a short training course. A choice of topics was offered, with Fundraising and Resources for Community Groups the most popular. A two-day learning workshop was subsequently organized for the 25th and 26th October 2006. |
18 representatives from a variety of local community based organisations took part in the training course which was accredited by The London Open College Network (LOCN), ensuring quality and standards in teaching and learning.
The focus of the training was firmly on the reality of participants’ organisations to allow for practical and achievable improvements in fundraising performance. This was underpinned with reading materials and handouts. |

As part of the course learners were asked to look forward and reflect on the capacity building needs of the NGO sector in South Durban. Key points to emerge were the value of this type of training for community groups and the need to improve networking and co-ordination among the groups in South Durban.
